As the mother institution, the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) has not only provided leadership but also cultivated the skilled human resources essential for staffing State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) and driving agricultural transformation. IARI alumni hold prominent positions both nationally and internationally, playing a vital role in advancing the mission of their alma mater. Recognizing and supporting this significant role, the IARI Alumni Association (IAA) was established on January 27, 1986, and formally launched on February 5, 1986, during the Silver Jubilee Convocation of the Post Graduate School of IARI, New Delhi. The association was inaugurated by one of its most distinguished alumni, Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, former Director General of ICAR and Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Government of India, and former Director General of the International Rice Research Institute, Philippines.

With exceeding 10,000 alumni, the IAA serves as the vital link facilitating communication and collaboration between IARI faculty, alumni, and relevant academic and research institutions. The association plays a pivotal role in fostering ongoing connections and advancing shared academic and research endeavors within the IARI community and beyond.
